Online registration is *not* required to attend this workshop. Spots will be assigned on a first-come first-served basis, so make sure to be at the workshop location at least 20 minutes before the starting time. The Best Workshop playfully engages ideas of ‘the best’ vs ‘the worst’, ‘success/failure’ and aims to engage this third space between binaries as a powerful space, as a space of uncertainty or ambiguity, where things can grow, where play lives. The workshop will include engaging in physical, sometimes silly, exercises that playfully reimagine different kinds of serious play and sports/training sessions so as to make them less about winning and more about playing through playing with the pre-existing rules of the game. For example, it might involve mixing two activities like whistling and pole throwing together to create a new whistling pole throwing sport. It might also include flocking warm ups that might (if players feel safe & inspired to do so) develop into an experimental flocking performance around the conference area that could even venture outside!
The goal of the workshop is to inspire players to laugh, have fun, sweat a bit, rethink what it means ‘to win’, learn from one another through playful humorous, unwinnable games that inspire a sense of agency where players feel they can contribute and engage freely.
